Rich Mendola Roadshow on iTunes U

In February, Rich Mendola (CIO, OIT) delivered his roadshow presentation to the staff of Enterprise Services (ES). The Roadshows were designed to spur more interaction with the executive team by meeting in smaller groups.
Rich's presentation had three major sections. First, he delivered his perspective on the state of OIT. Then he related some trends that he currently sees in IT as they relate to education and healthcare. Lastly, Rich laid out the groundwork for his Extra Credit assignment. Following the presentation he engaged in a lively Q&A with the ES department, during which Brett Coryell (Deputy CIO, OIT) added some updates for several key projects around the division.
Following the Roadshow, Michael Keown (Director, Enterprise Services) also gave a presentation. Among various items, Michael discussed the recent healthcare acquisitions and the dramatic impact they will have for his department and talked about the redesign of the co-location data center in 1599.
At Michael's request, the presentations were videoed by the Marcomm department for the purposes of rebroadcasting them to his many employees who were not able to attend the meeting due to their job requirements. As a result, these presentations are now available on iTunes U, in the same location as the IT Briefings (IT Briefing on iTunes U, April, 2012 Online News).
To access the broadcasts, you will need the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer. Login to Exclusively Emory at: http://itunes.emory.edu to launch the iTunes application. Scroll down to the Office of Information Technology section and click "OIT Videos." Click on the tab that says "Mendola Roadshow 2012" and simply select the video you want. You can either play it on your computer by double clicking the track name or download it to your computer or mobile device.
Greening IT: Transportation Referendum
The "Green Swish" indicates stories or ideas emphasizing our Division's efforts to be sustainable.
The Town Hall for the Transportation Referendum (sponsored by the Office of Sustainability Initiatives) on April 25 was well attended and the effort to get the Vote out is underway!
When: July 31 is Voting Day
What: Metro Atlanta Transportation Referendum - 1% Sales Tax to fund priority transportation projects throughout 10 counties in the metro Atlanta region. Projection of $7.2 billion raised over 10 years with 85% going to selected regional projects and 15% going to local projects. Emory highlights include potential New Light Rail, Improved Roadways, Safer Bicycle and Pedestrian Access. For more information: http://transformmetroatlanta.com.
April's Recycling Competition (the building with the greatest increase in recyclables by weight) is almost over. A mid month snapshot shows a total of 72,380 lbs already collected! This is amongst 61 building and includes plastic, aluminum, brown and clear glass, white paper, mixed paper and secured shred paper. That is after just 15 days of collection! Stay tuned next month to see how it all shakes out.
Recycle Your Life - On May 12, the parking lot of Decatur First UMC will be the site of a recycling bonanza! Come from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and recycle everything but your kitchen sink! We will be accepting household items, clothing, shoes, books, electronics (including TVs for a $10 charge), paper for shredding ($5 charge per banker's box) and paint ($1 per can). This is a great way to ramp up your spring cleaning, donate to worthy charities, and help the environment.
